Hot Crabbing – Even a Crab’s eye view.

Fishing is always on Marsh Man Masson’s mind, but when summer heat wraps South Louisiana like a hot, moist towel, he can’t help but pull out a couple dozen nets, bait them up and drop them down to ravenous blue crabs.

Summer crabbing is in full swing right now, so Marsh Man and his son, Joel, took advantage. After buying some turkey necks, they made a predawn trip to one of their favorite crabbing holes and filled an ice chest by 8:30 a.m.

Now, crabbing isn’t as mindless as some people might think. There are definite tricks of the trade that will ensure your friends and family feast on claws rather than hot dogs.

In this video, Marsh Man shares what he’s learned from a lifetime of pursuing the tastiest crustaceans along the Gulf Coast. He also drops a camera down to see what goes on in a net while it’s on the bottom in a productive area.

If you enjoyed it, please give the video a thumbs-up, and subscribe to the Marsh Man Masson channel on YouTube. Also, leave a comment below. Do you like to crab this time of year? If so, what are some of your successful patterns?

Hey marsh, do you use seasoning on the crabs? What's your preferred way of boiling and prep?

Awesome video. Really like the underwater footage. Makes me want to go out and make some crab nets like yours. Are those nets store bought or custom made? Thanks for postingπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks for all your videos Mr Masson. How do you get to the wall in Chalmette? I've asked many people here in Metairie but they don't know how. Would love to take my kids out there. Thanks

Enjoying your channel, which I just found. I fish in the Texas coastal waters. I am curious. So you drop the nets in the morning and just keeping making rounds? Or do you give some time in between each round and fish in the meantime?

? how long were your lines? Like the video grand kids would love this.

Edward Thayer says:

Why was it stupid to mount a gopro on a crab trap? Numerous youtubers have done it! Plus thousands of other people. Boiling the crabs was cringe worthy at it's best though! That was more stupid.

G.F. Hunting & Fishing says:

I have some 20” round deep water crawfish nets, which have much smaller stitching/opening than the crab nets do. Would the crawfish nets work or do you think the crabs would be able to get out easier? I’d just rather not buy new nets if i can duel purpose the ones i have. The nets are made by Gus’s here in Slidell.

Really sweet video

Nice video. I take my family out to Bayou Lacombe on the NOLA north shore and we do pretty well.
