Good value but needs some cheap modifications to make it better and more durable. I grew up in the Chesapeake Bay area and I’ve use all types of methods and gear to catch blue crabs. While I prefer the collapsible traps, when the budget is tight or if you don’t go that often and just want something functional, then these crab rings will work nearly as well.First things first, the wire mesh….you have to rinse (even soak with fresh water) after each use to prevent corrosion/rust. It will happen eventually but you can at least extend the life by practicing this simple maintenance. I heard you can also use marine paint, the stuff they put on the bottom of boats to prevent corrosion but you need to get any film leftover from manufacturing off the wire for the paint to stick well (I think a quart of rustoleum costs around $6).Now, if you’ve ordered these traps far enough in advance, go out and buy a small roll of braided polyester string….the stuff masons use to snap lines when laying down pavers, etc. I suggest braided because it’s better…

Best crab net for your dollar! I had to order more of these, as I gave my other two to military members. They had the rope nets and were impressed by how I was able to keep catching quality blue crabs which measured over five inches point to point. As others have mentioned, and I plan to do the same with these I replaced the thin rope on the sides with a better line. I also used a thicker crab rope for the main line. Easy and cheap!
